Yale University is an yankee personal league analysis university in New Haven, Connecticut. Founded in 1701 in Saybrook Colony as the body faculty, the University is the third-oldest institution of upper education within the us. The school was renamed Yale school in 1718 in recognition of a present from altruist, who was governor of the British archipelago Company. Established to train Congregationalist ministers in theology and sacred languages, by 1777 the school's curriculum began to incorporate humanities and sciences. In the 19th century the varsity incorporated graduate and skilled instruction, awarding the 1st pH.D. in the us in 1861 and organizing as a university in 1887.

Yale is organized into fourteen constituent schools: the original undergraduate school, the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and twelve professional colleges. While the university is ruled by the Yale Corporation, each school's college oversees its course of study and degree programs. In addition to a central campus in downtown New Haven, the University owns athletic facilities in western New Haven, including the Yale Bowl, a campus in West Haven, Connecticut, and forest and nature preserves throughout New England. The university's assets include associate degree endowment valued at $25.6 billion as of September 2015, the second largest of any educational establishment.The Yale University Library, serving all constituent schools, holds more than fifteen million volumes and is that the third-largest educational library within the us.
Yale College undergraduates follow a liberal arts course of study with division majors and ar organized into a system of residential schools. Almost all college teach undergrad courses, more than a pair of,000 of which ar offered annually. Students compete intercollegiately as the Yale Bulldogs within the NCAA Division I league.
Yale has graduated many notable alumni, including 5 U.S. Presidents, 19 U.S. Supreme Court Justices, 13 living billionaires, and many foreign heads of state. In addition, Yale has graduated hundreds of members of Congress and lots of high-level U.S. diplomats, including former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and current Secretary of State John Kerry. 52 philanthropist laureates, 5 Fields Medalists, 230 Rhodes Scholars, and 118 Marshall Scholars have been attached with the University.
Yale traces its beginnings to "An Act for Liberty to Erect a Collegiate faculty," passed by the final Court of the Colony of Connecticut on October nine, 1701, while meeting in New Haven. The Act was an effort to form an establishment to coach ministers and lay leadership for Connecticut. Soon thenceforth, a group of 10 Congregationalist ministers: Samuel Apostle, Thomas Buckingham, Israel Chauncy, Samuel Mather, Rev. James Noyes II (son of James Noyes), James Pierpont, Abraham Pierson, Noadiah Russell, Joseph Webb and Timothy Wood bridge, all alumni of Harvard, met in the study of Reverend Samuel Russell in Bran ford, Connecticut, to pool their books to form the school's library.The group, led by James Pierpont, is now far-famed as "The Founders".
Originally known as the "Collegiate faculty," the institution opened in the home of its 1st parson, Abraham Pierson, in Killing worth (now Clinton). The school moved  to Say brook, and then Wethersfield. In 1716 the college moved  to New Haven, Connecticut.
